Take the time to share the challenge and fun, and help your daughter appreciate her strength, resilience and personal capability. The activity is aimed at girls aged 10-14.
This overnight micro adventure is a challenging hike carrying all gear needed for an overnight camp. This is intended to be a pack-carrying hike, talk to us if you have any particular concerns about this.
While you will inevitably carry the “lioness share” the aim is to help your daughter rise to the challenge and carry some of her own essentials. It is important that the weight carried is appropriate to your child’s capabilities, please ask us for recommended weight guidelines and gear-lists.
The planned hike is a circular walk over two days, all on established tracks and trails over undulating, hilly and at times rocky steep terrain. Each day’s walk will be about 6km (approx 12km total), carrying a tent, sleeping gear, stove, fuel, clothing, food and essential items.
We supply most gear – backpacks, tents (2 person), stoves and fuel, sleeping rolls, sleeping bags and liners, food and drink – you will need rain proof clothing and warm layers and/or sun protective depending on the weather forecast.

Meet your host
Lisa is the founder of Big Heart Adventures and brings an extensive portfolio of personal adventure travel as well as boundless enthusiasm & proven expertise in travel planning.
Lisa’s attention to detail and passion for curating unique experiences has allowed her to plan travel, adventures & holidays for an extensive demographic of clients over many years.
An experienced adventure traveller, having completed expeditions including the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea, Inca Trail in Peru, Mt Kinabalu in Sabah, Overland Track in Tasmania, Milford and Routeburn Tracks in New Zealand to name a few, Lisa knows first-hand the challenges and amazing reward that exploring the outdoors adds to your life.
While I grew up by the Cleveland Hills in North Yorkshire, walking, riding and exploring, life put other concerns in my way, and I forgot what it was to be adventurous. A few challenges to ‘normal’ forced me to re-evaluate my direction, and in my forties, my mid-life adventures began. I haven’t climbed Everest or swum the Nile, but I have loved finding out just what I can do. I try not to set limits on myself, and I allow myself to fail but only if I ‘give it a go’ first.
From that first ‘crazy’ poorly prepared hike, to a fully qualified bushwalking leader, I have had opportunities to explore our South Australian backyard, seeing wonderful areas that many South Australians may not even be aware of. Outside of SA, my hiking adventures have taken me exploring in Victoria, Tasmania and most recently New Zealand with my daughter Ella.
I am passionate about sharing possibilities with others, and helping them to discover their own strength and capabilities through hiking. I recognise that everyone may be at different stages of confidence, and am always excited to see people connecting with the natural spaces around them. Adventuring at any level, and appreciating each environmental wonder is for all of us, and I feel it a privilege to be part of each individual’s journey.
Born in the heart of Australia I grew up with the desert as my backyard. With parents keen on the outdoors camping, hiking, climbing mountains and running around in the scrub was a common occurrence. I could never be kept inside and have had a passion for nature, fresh air and the wilderness from an early age.
It was an international school exchange to Cape Town, South Africa at 15 that then sparked the travel bug within me. Ever since I’ve trotted across the globe on many adventures. Tertiary education kept me in one spot for a while and I delighted in exploring rural South Australia and all the fabulous wildlife and bushwalking it has to offer. Jumping straight into outdoor education after graduating, was a given so I could share the beauty of S.A with others.
I have a passion of sharing the outdoors with everyone, including the next generation who should have the opportunity to see how the outdoors can have a positive impact on their lives. When I’m not discovering a new trail or hike I’m on the water in a kayak, on a rock wall, reading under a tree or practising yoga.
