Due to COVID-19 we are postponing all our day walks, information nights, navigation courses and multi day trips until we are advised that it is safe to do so. We look forward to sharing the trails and adventures with you all in the future.
You can stay in touch with us by subscribing to our e-newsletter in the meantime.
Thank you for your support. Yours in Adventure and Life Changing Treks, The Big Heart Team

An opportunity to accompany your daughter (or granddaughter/niece) on an overnight camping adventure.

Take the time to share the challenge and fun, and help your Strong Daughter appreciate her strength, resilience and personal
capability. These events are aimed for girls aged 9-14 and encourage outdoor skills and knowledge building.

Strong Daughters and their mums (grandmothers/aunties) will hike 12km over 2 days carrying belongings in a backpack, along
undulating bush and forest trails. Locations vary in distance and difficulty so you can choose the one that suits you best. Activities
include learning to build a simple shelter, erecting tents, camp cooking, wristband making, campfire skills, safe hiking techniques and more. A backup vehicle is on hand to carry heavy or excess items so only a comfortable weight is carried in the backpacks.

All adventures are lead by a peer mentor and an experienced outdoor leader who is certified in remote area first aid and bushwalking
leadership. All leaders carry a group first-aid kit, emergency communications device, emergency documentation and equipment.

We supply backpacks, 2 person tents, sleeping bags and liners, sleeping mats, cooking stoves and fuel, meals, snacks, drinks, and all
materials for the activities.

Operating April to October in South Australia.

Meet your leaders

Lisa is the founder of Big Heart Adventures and brings an extensive portfolio of personal adventure travel as well as boundless enthusiasm & proven expertise in travel planning.

Lisa’s attention to detail and passion for curating unique experiences has allowed her to plan travel, adventures & holidays for an extensive demographic of clients over many years.

An experienced adventure traveller, having completed expeditions including the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea, Inca Trail in Peru, Mt Kinabalu in Sabah, Overland Track in Tasmania, Milford and Routeburn Tracks in New Zealand to name a few, Lisa knows first-hand the challenges and amazing reward that exploring the outdoors adds to your life.

While I grew up by the Cleveland Hills in North Yorkshire, walking, riding and exploring, life put other concerns in my way, and I forgot what it was to be adventurous.  A few challenges to ‘normal’ forced me to re-evaluate my direction, and in my forties, my mid-life adventures began.  I haven’t climbed Everest or swum the Nile, but I have loved finding out just what I can do.  I try not to set limits on myself, and I allow myself to fail but only if I ‘give it a go’ first.

From that first ‘crazy’ poorly prepared hike, to a fully qualified bushwalking leader, I have had opportunities to explore our South Australian backyard, seeing wonderful areas that many South Australians may not even be aware of.  Outside of SA, my hiking adventures have taken me exploring in Victoria, Tasmania and most recently New Zealand with my daughter Ella.

I am passionate about sharing possibilities with others, and helping them to discover their own strength and capabilities through hiking.  I recognise that everyone may be at different stages of confidence,  and am always excited to see people connecting with the natural spaces around them.  Adventuring at any level, and appreciating each environmental wonder is for all of us, and I feel it a privilege to be part of each individual’s journey.

There’s nothing Briony likes more than a good long walk.

She’s done solo multi-day hikes through Tassie, Patagonia, and of course, SA.

Previously a land surveyor, she’s also taught introductory mapping at university for four years. She’s passionate about hiking and the environment and loves to share her experiences and knowledge with others.

“Bushwalking brings me such joy and is something that has really developed my confidence in myself. I love seeing women discover their strengths, and taking on challenges with determination.”

Born in the heart of Australia I grew up with the desert as my backyard. With parents keen on the outdoors camping, hiking, climbing mountains and running around in the scrub was a common occurrence. I could never be kept inside and have had a passion for nature, fresh air and the wilderness from an early age.

It was an international school exchange to Cape Town, South Africa at 15 that then sparked the travel bug within me. Ever since I’ve trotted across the globe on many adventures. Tertiary education kept me in one spot for a while and I delighted in exploring rural South Australia and all the fabulous wildlife and bushwalking it has to offer. Jumping straight into outdoor education after graduating, was a given so I could share the beauty of S.A with others.

I have a passion of sharing the outdoors with everyone, including the next generation who should have the opportunity to see how the outdoors can have a positive impact on their lives. When I’m not discovering a new trail or hike I’m on the water in a kayak, on a rock wall, reading under a tree or practising yoga.
