Completing Walk The York self-guided can be challenging. The ‘Walk The Yorke’ trail is a 500km coastal journey on Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. Starting from Port Wakefield the trail follows the eastern coast down to the southern tip. Then back up the western coastline to finish at Moonta Bay.
The walk takes you along picturesque coastline, friendly seaside towns, quiet back roads, and through the spectacular Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park.

Walk the most gorgeous sections of this long distance trail on Yorke Peninsula. Packages are suitable for solo walkers, couples, families and walking groups. The larger your group the cheaper per person, as pricing works on a sliding scale.
Your walking package includes a comprehensive walking kit with maps, trail transfers, and comfortable accommodation each night. Your east coast package ‘Eastern Calf’ has protected bays and safe swimming beaches. Driving this eastern coast takes you past significant locations including historic wells and a whale memorial. Arriving at you accommodation for both nights in Port Vincent, a pretty seaside town on Yorke Peninsula. Port Vincent is approximately 200km and a 2½ hours drive from Adelaide.
Day 1
Self drive to Yorke Peninsula to meet up with your vehicle transfer. Here, you will be transferred to the start of your first days walk. The walk today includes majestic views over a mangrove forest. Keep an eye out for migratory wading birds. Also a stroll through wombat warrens behind mangrove and samphire ecosystems. Home of the grumpy Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat.

Day 2
Your starting point this morning will be determined by the tides. The section of trail today highlights the varying landscapes and surfaces that make the Walk The Yorke trail unique. From gorgeous bushland trails, remote sandy beaches, quiet farmland roads, spectacular cliffs and Aboriginal significant sites. Dolphins frequent this coastline so keep an eye on the water.
Walking Distance: 23km
Day 3
Today you have a 2km beach section. This is subject to tidal influence so will be managed at the start or end of the walk. Look out for the small underground mine dug into the cliff when on the beach. Other sections of the trail today pass through coastal bushland and old diggings and kilms that provide an insight into the regions mining history.
Walking Distance: 10km
A full itinerary is provided after booking and adjustments can be made based on flight arrival times. We will also arrange for later transfer pick up times if you like to sleep in, or earlier times if you prefer to walk first thing in the morning.

Your south coast package ‘Southern Toe’ has wild cliffs and beautiful bushland trails. The southern tip of Yorke Peninsula is reached by multiple ways. Passing plenty of spots for a coffee or lunch break. Your accommodation for both nights is in Marion Bay, a quiet coastal town on the edge of Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. Marion Bay is approximately 280km and a 3½ hours drive from Adelaide.
Day 1
Self drive to Yorke Peninsula to meet up with your vehicle transfer. Here, you will be transferred to the start of your first days walk. Todays walk includes a remote sandy beach section and thick wooded scrub land. Keep an eye out for dolphins. This quiet section of coastline gets you up close to giant wind turbines. These fascinating turbines generate two per cent of South Australia’s electricity.

Day 2
Today provides spectacular scenery as you pass through Dhilba Guuranda-Innes National Park. Abundant birdlife, kangaroos, goanna and emus call this special place home. You walk on varying trail surfaces amongst thick native vegetation which provides a colourful display through spring. This section of Walk The Yorke trail includes beach walking, dramatic steep cliffs, and large salt lakes. Plan to spend some time exploring the historic ruins of Inneston, an old gypsum mining town.

Day 3
Get ready for a remote coastal experience today. As your Walk The Yorke self-guided journey takes you along one of the most dramatic cliff-line sections of the trail. Hike through vegetated sand dunes, along surf beaches and across rocky plateau. Birds of prey can be seen today.
Walking Distance: 10km

Your west coast package ‘Western Shin’ has long sandy beaches and quiet shores. The easy drive to the western side of Yorke Peninsula provides opportunities to stretch the legs, refresh and learn about the local Narungga and European history. Arriving at you accommodation for both nights in Point Turton, a peaceful seaside town overlooking the sheltered waters of Hardwicke Bay. Point Turton is approximately 240km and a 3 hours drive from Adelaide.
Day 1
Self drive to Yorke Peninsula to meet up with your vehicle transfer. Here, you will be transferred to the start of your first days walk. Picture rugged coastline, small sandy beaches, black granite boulders sprinkled with orange lichen, and crystal clear water. That’s what awaits you. Your remote beach walk section is part of a lobster sanctuary zone. Rock hopping and quiet trails take you to headland lookouts. Keep an eye out for surfers in the water.
Walking Distance: 8km
Day 2
Today you will walk adjacent foreshore flat and reef. Included is a beach section for a distance of 7km bordering an inland Conservation Park. So plenty of time to spot whales and seals. The trail follows around headlands and offers plenty of scenic views. Look for the 100 year old hand-dug channel along the way. An insight into the hard work that was undertaken by 20 people over a 50 week period.
Walking Distance: 22km
Day 3
A short drive to your starting point for your final days walk. A sandy beach adjacent reef and dunes, plus trail through remnant coastal vegetation. This pretty section of Walk The Yorke trail has a bit of everything. Including a bushland trail for 4km through a Conservation Park at the back of the dunes.

Getting There
- Your eastern and western Walk The Yorke self-guided packages are located about 2½ hours drive from Adelaide.
- The southern package is the trails furthest point away from Adelaide and is a 3½ hours drive.
