Itinerary
Day 1 | Travel to Mambray creek
We head north from Adelaide’s CBD towards the stunning Flinders Ranges. The drive is around 3-4 hours so we will insert comfort stops as necessary and enjoy lunch along the way.
Upon arrival, its time to set up tents and make this place home (literally among the gum trees!) for the next 2 nights. Subject to our arrival time, we will explore the trails around the campground and possibly head into Davy Gully for a short walk to get our bodies used to the kind of trails and terrain that the Flinders Ranges is know for – creek beds, gorges and climbs!
Dinner is prepared and served up beside the campfire. Over dessert we brief you about your walk tomorrow and then it’s a chance to catch up on sleep.
Meals Included: Lunch, Trail Snacks, 2 Course Dinner
Walking Distance: 4km
Day 2 | Hidden Gorge Loop Walk
After a hearty breakfast we will start our day hike allowing 7 hours to complete.
The walk begins just beyond the campground. Walking through Mambray Creek, past pools of permanent water, through native pine forest, the walk passes Hidden Gorge Campsite to enter the ever-narrowing Hidden Gorge. With steep red-rock walls, you can walk on through and out along a superb path up to The Battery, with extensive views over Spencer Gulf. Spotting rock wallabies, birds and immersing with the ancient landscapes, created 800 million years ago, this trail is a step back in time and might involve a wet foot crossing or two if the creek is in flow. All part of the challenge!
The track meanders back to the trailhead at Mambray Creek Campground where there is opportunity to take a shower, relax and enjoy a delicious dinner under the stars.
Warm up beside our campfire as once again we deliver dessert and brief you for adventure tomorrow and a chance to catch sleep after a big day of hiking.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Trail Snacks, Lunch, 2 Course Dinner
Walking Distance: 18km
Day 3 | Alligator Gorge, Clare Valley, Adelaide
The second nights sleep in the tent usually is a good one, especially after a challenging hike.
Continuing our theme of “Gorge-ous” places, we pack up camp today and head to the other side of Mt Remarkable National Park where we do a short 2 hour loop walk at Alligator Gorge. Heading down stairs deep into the Gorge, we explore the Terraces and the Narrows where we offer a final opportunity for connection with the ancient landscapes of this incredible gorge. After lunch in Melrose we say goodbye to the Flinders Ranges as we journey to Adelaide via the beautiful Clare Valley. Anticipate to arrive back into Adelaide at approximately 5:30pm, but please do not book flights for this evening.
Meals Included: Breakfast, Trail Snacks
