Join Wise Women Walking for a Far North Flinders Ranges Weekender on Adnamathyna Country.

We take you beyond Wilpena Pound to land less visited. An area of the Flinders Ranges that will leave you in awe.

Walking pack-free (day pack only) we enjoy challenging walks in ancient landscapes with spectacular vistas, connection time, fresh meals, and comfortable group style accommodation. Some shorter walks are also offered on this trip.

Campfires and glowing outback skies await. So Find Yourself Be Yourself Challenge Yourself with this 4 day adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Depart Adelaide / Sacred Canyon / Far North Flinders Ranges

We make an early start from Adelaide this morning as we head north in our comfortable transport, ready for adventure in the stunning Far North Flinders Ranges.

We enjoy morning tea in Port Wakefield, then we notice the landscape change as the Flinders Ranges gradually rises on our eastern side. We cross the Ranges just before Quorn, then continue our journey north.

Passing Wilpena Pound we arrive at Sacred Canyon. Here you will wander into the past with our Adnamathyna guide and learn about the traditional way of life for the local indigenous people. You will be welcomed to this wonderful Country and gain special access to this significant site, containing some of the oldest rock engravings in the world.

It’s then onwards, further north to our private and peaceful accommodation. Settling in for nibbles and drinks around the campfire followed by a delicious 2 course dinner.

Day 2 | Wilkawillina Gorge

This morning we head out to Wilkawillina for a stunning gorge walk that will leave you in awe.

Wilkawillina has a stunning section of gorge to walk, it is one of the biggest and best in the Flinders Ranges. This gorge has plenty of challenge plus the opportunity to spot Yellow-footed Rock-wallabies.

We pack lunch and plenty of snacks for this adventure, allowing 6 hours on this spectacular trail.

We return to our accommodation to relax and unwind at sunset with a delicious nibbles platter and sumptuous dinner.

Day 3 | Blinman Pools

Todays walk at Blinman Pools also offers challenge.

Our trail includes rock hopping as it climbs to the different levels of Blinman Pools. There are also seasonal waterfalls here. This trail is rated moderate-hard but is also a lot of fun and adventurous. We will enjoy a picnic lunch by these natural pools.

This afternoon we visit an authentic Adnamathyna shop and gallery. Then choose to relax or visit the ‘Great Wall Of China’ rock formation.

Tonight we enjoy a simple pub dinner (outback style!), then a campfire dessert and a night gazing up at the sky.

Day 4 | Wilpena Pound / Drive to Adelaide

Today we head south and back down to Adelaide. But, we venture one more time on to the trails of the Flinders Ranges.

We hike to Wangara Lookout in Wilpena Pound. An easy stroll along a gorgeous trail that takes us to the old homestead. Then its a short climb to the lookout, for panoramic views into Wilpena Pound.

Following our hike, we enjoy lunch at a café in Quorn.

Then, we take a scenic afternoon drive through the Clare Valley and arrive back in Adelaide at around 6:00pm. We provide multiple drop off points including most CBD hotels in Adelaide.

  • Daypack (35 litre approx.)
  • Water bottles/hydration kit (min 2Ltrs)
  • Personal medications
  • Clothing suitable for bushwalking that is quick drying, warm layers if chilly – consider merino/synthetic clothing
  • Sun protection such as hat, sunglasses and suncream, insect repellent (if joining us in warmer months consider a head net for the flies)
  • Sleeping attire
  • Gaiters if you wear shorts (recommended)
  • Walking poles (optional and recommended) – we can assist with hiring if needed

Fitness Requirement

  • A very good level of fitness is required to walk the trails on this trip
  • You will be walking pack free (day packs only)
  • You will walk on a variety of surfaces including rocks, steep sections and loose ground
  • We recommend you do some hilly walks (up to 15km) before this trip to maximise your enjoyment of the climbs and views
  • Trail rating: Moderate-hard
